All Nature Sings

This composition was written in January and February of 2021. The inspiration came a year earlier, at which time the hymn texts were collected and assembled in sequence. There are two driving forces behind this work.

The first is that, as one born into the Protestant Christian tradition, I have always been somewhat envious of the magnificent
mass liturgy available to those of Roman Catholic heritage. These beautiful texts have inspired composers for centuries. What I have come to realize is that for me, and many other Protestants, the great hymns of faith (“All Creatures of Our God
and King”, et. al.) contain the elements of tradition that sound like “home”.

Secondly, Psalm 96 says “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth.” Romans 1:20 says “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made…” These scriptures inspire me to set the particular hymns that celebrate the majesty of God’s creation to new music!
